There are very few people that I meet who say they have a very relaxed and quiet lifestyle and are able to pursue goals and future plans in a positive way. The majority of modern day lifestyles are busy, hectic and have plenty of deadlines.
Recently I met a woman who had been leading a very hectic lifestyle and her health was starting to suffer. Increased fast foods, late nights at work and socially, no exercise and complaining of headaches. Emotionally she felt like she was starting to get depressed and sad.
She told me she had read a book called Sugar Blues and began to make some lifestyle changes and was a little unsure of how to make food changes in her life. The hardest change she had to make was her refined sugar addiction. She was unable to go one day without refined sugar. After making that change in her daily lifestyle, she was ready for a few more changes. By removing the sugar intake, and walking a few days a week in the morning before work, her weight started to decrease. Further adjustments were made to her daily intake of food and a lot more fruit and vegetables were incorporated. Her daily intake of protein was very haphazard, maybe a little fish once a week or a slice of beef on a sandwich. After these adjustments the headaches were now gone and she was sleeping so much better. She told me her concentration had improved and she had returned to adult education classes to finish studies that were incomplete from a long time ago.
A macrobiotic approach looks at each individual because we all have different lifestyles. For some people it may only be adjusting one or two aspects to bring about a feeling of improved health. When you feel a little better it is my experience that people want to feel a lot better and their path to a healthy life style begins. There are many people who need a lot more than one or two adjustments in their daily diet and lifestyle to feel the changes of a healthy day. Some people have to work a little more than others do, and they see their lifestyle change in leaps and bounds. Everyone is different and that is what makes our lifestyles important and individual.
